Toronto, ON — June 22, 2020 — Scholars Education is pleased to announce Julia Band Orange is the recipient of the $10,000 scholarship in partnership with Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings.
Band Orange submitted an application essay that showcased exemplary writing skills and will receive a $10,000 scholarship towards her post-secondary education.
The scholarship was created to help a deserving senior high school student achieve academic success in post-secondary education at a Canadian college or university. Doughty generously donated $10,000 for the scholarship to help Canadian students achieve academic success, especially in light of school closures nationwide.
Applicants were asked to submit an essay explaining how they have overcome adversity in their lifetime and a connection to a positive response to the current global situation. Submissions were judged by the Scholars Advisory Board, each member of which holds a doctorate from an accredited Canadian university in their respective field of study and research, with Doughty ultimately selecting the winner. After all eligible entries were carefully reviewed, Julia Band Orange’s application essay was selected as the winner.
